Mick drove to Inverness this morning from Fort Augustus and parked up then cycled to meet me along General Wade’s Military Road – we met beside Loch Ness and had a bacon sandwich. Now we are in Inverness and have dumped the hire car – well, returned it to the rental place, and we are in our way to Alness. Having a spot of lunch in the Velocity Cafe – a bike cafe/workshop. Fab!
Tomorrow
Up and along General Wade’s Military Road to Inverness and on to Alness tomorrow night
Tonight’s rest stop
Staying at Bank House B & B – run by Sue and Ian. Really nice couple who moved up here from Cheshire a year ago. They are into lots of outdoor activities including canoeing – Ian took Mick out for a paddle down the river and into Loch Ness while I slept. Dinner in The Lock Inn on the canal side – lovely.
Waiting for the yacht to pass
Followed the B road up from Banavie, crossing the canal, and after a hilly section joined the A82 in the rain at the Commando Monument where Muck was waiting with a smile and a gel! Keep fuelling – that ‘s the trick.
Cycle path following A82
The cycle path was finished in June this year – some beautiful stretches of tarmac. It follows the old slate railway from Connell to Ballachulish and is fab. Over the bridge at Ballachulish and on to the Corran ferry – up t’other side of Loch Linnhe, past Conaglen House and up to the foot ferry back to Fort William. Mick came over on the ferry to meet me and got chatting to a lady called Carol Campbell who donated £5 to our worthy causes – thanks Carol. Great little boat ride.
